Upcoming Auditions

Performance Information
This audition is for students 18yr and younger.
It’s our show now, kid. The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR., the frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter shows his true stripes, unleashing a (Nether)world of pandemonium.
With music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominee Eddie Perfect and a book by Tony Award-nominated pair Anthony King and Scott Brown, Beetlejuice was nominated for eight 2019 Tony Awards including Best New Musical. A viral “sucks-yes” on social media, this musical struck a chord with young theatre lovers who adored its unabashed humor and emotional honesty.
Created for the generation that made it a hit, Beetlejuice JR. is a wacky theatrical party for all!
Presented by The Academy at HART
Director: Shelia Sumpter

FAQs
What are the requirements to qualify? None! We're holding open auditions for short and long form ensembles for 2025. While we would love it if you had improv and/or theater experience and will take that into consideration, it won't be necessary for you to be considered for a Misfit team.
Can I be in more than one ensemble? No. You can audition for either a short form or long form ensemble.
Will everyone get in? Unfortunately, no. We'll be holding open auditions and looking for players for four different teams. With that in mind, we will do what we can to get as many people in ensembles as possible. That being said, this is a part time gig for all Misfit staff. We'll build ensembles based on the amount of people we can effectively manage, and we won't put you on an ensemble if we don't think you are ready.
Where will the shows be? All Misfit ensemble shows will be held at NC Stage, 15 Stage Ln, Asheville, NC 28801
When will the shows be? Great question! Show are scheduled based on NC Stages availability. Power teams will generally perform once a month on Fridays and Boost teams will perform once a month on Sundays.
Current Boost shows are: Feb 23, Mar 23, April 27th, Jun 27th, July 20th, Aug 17th
Current Power shows are: Feb 28th, Mar 28th, April 6th (Sun), Jun 13th, July 11th, Aug 8th
What is the time commitment? Misfit Performance Ensembles will rehearse once a month for two hours. Rehearsal schedules will be determined by your team and with your coach.
What is the financial commitment for long and short form improv ensembles?
You will pay your coach directly, $10/pp. You need a minimum of 4 people at rehearsal. If you are going to cancel rehearsal, you must alert your coach within 24 hours or you will still owe the coaching fee. You will book your own rehearsal space. Whenever possible we will make the Misfit space available for rehearsal. However, between classes and the noise limitations of the building it is often not available. We do however have the backyard if people want to rehearse outside. Reach out to us for suggestions.
Ticket fees will go to cover the venue, credit cards fees, the music director, show staff, marketing.
If I miss rehearsal, can I still play the show? If you miss the monthly rehearsal and your team is playing a show that month, no you cannot be in the show. No exceptions.
If I miss a rehearsal, do I still need to pay my coach? If your team has met their minimum without you or canceled rehearsal before the 24 cut off, then no, you shouldn't need to pay your coach if you miss rehearsal. If you did not let your team know within 24 hours that you would be missing rehearsal, then yes, you should still chip in.
What if we don't meet the minimum and need to cancel rehearsal? That's fine. Just let your coach know within 24 hours or you still need to pay them. You will also need reschedule so your ensemble meets the once a month rehearsal commitment.
What about music improv? We will be having music improv ensemble auditions and we do a very specific form and that audition will only be available for students who have gone through the music improv program.

Miss Julie is a complex play that examines social order and sexuality, largely focusing on John and Miss Julie’s relationship and their struggle to maintain integrity in the face of social mores. Over the course of a midsummer night, the unsettled daughter of aristocracy encourages her father's valet to seduce her. Originally written in 1888, this new adaptation modernizes the dialogue, while keeping the setting and time ambiguous enough to allow for contemporary interpretation.

The Thanksgiving Play follows four white individuals who are determined to create a politically correct First Thanksgiving play for Native American Heritage Month in schools. Logan, the director, hires an actress named Alicia, believing she is Native American, to provide cultural authenticity. However, it is soon revealed that Alicia is actually white and only portrays Native American characters when not playing other ethnicities. Without an authentic Native voice, Logan and her team are forced to confront the complexities of privilege while adhering to historical accuracy and school district rules. Meanwhile, they begin to understand the challenges of performative activism and of trying to address cultural issues without genuine understanding.
Triggers: Discussion of indigenous genocide.
