Helene Resources for Performing Arts

Western North Carolina artists of all disciplines substantially impacted by Hurricane Helene are invited to apply for ArtsAVL Emergency Relief Grant. The grant provides $500 relief stipends to arts professionals working in craft, literary, media, performing, visual, and interdisciplinary arts.

This regional grant is open to arts professionals 18 years or older in Western North Carolina counties impacted by Hurricane Helene, including Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey.

Phase One: Art Recovers has launched in conjunction with a generous matching donation from the folks at Make Noise Music, allowing us to double our reach. 

Phase Two: Art Remains, launches fundraising on November 10, 2024. Once phase one is complete and phase two is well underway, we will turn our attention to 

Phase Three: Art Thrives, which will focus on long term stable spaces for Asheville area artists.

You qualify if you are an artist or theatre technician in the affected area who participated in a recent Asheville Fringe Arts Festival or who has applied to our upcoming 2025 festival.

Administered by the National Independent Venue Foundation (NIVF), a 501(c)(3) organization, the NIVF Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) is dedicated to providing economic relief to independent, live performance venues and promoters, both for-profit and nonprofit, across the United States experiencing a critically severe emergency due to circumstances beyond their control.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed for eligibility as received throughout the year. Funding will be subject to availability and distributed according to a grant agreement. Please note NIVA membership is not a prerequisite for applying to NIVF Emergency Relief Fund.

DGF provides emergency financial assistance to individual playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists in dire need of funds due to severe hardship or unexpected illness. By supporting and nurturing the creators of today, we protect the stories of tomorrow.

Emergency Financial Assistance is available to eligible performing arts and entertainment professionals:

  • You must show proof of at least 5 or more years of paid professional experience in the music industry  AND/OR at least 6 commercially released singles and/or music videos 
  • MusiCares may provide financial assistance to eligible music industry professionals who are in geographic areas impacted by natural disasters.  
  • Completing the following questions does not guarantee assistance. MusiCares will contact you shortly after receiving your completed form. Please note this process can take at least five business days.  

Emergency Financial Assistance is available to eligible performing arts and entertainment professionals:

  • In times of unexpected critical need
  • To assist towards basic living expenses such as health care, housing and utilities to prevent eviction or shut-offs

The WNC Strong: Helene Business Recovery Fund was created to provide rapid recovery loans to small businesses suffering economic losses related to the impacts of Tropical Storm Helene. The fund is administered by Mountain BizWorks and made possible with support from The Golden LEAF Foundation, and an expanding list of other partners.

The WNC Strong: Helene Business Recovery Fund helps small businesses close the gap between when the disaster strikes and when federal loans, insurance payouts, and other disaster relief funds are approved, or businesses have time to recover and get back to business.

Your donation will provide crucial support to:

  • Rebuilding the Artistic Ecosystem: Investing in programs that nurture new works, emerging artists, and innovative performances that will shape the future of the arts.
  • Community Outreach: Ensuring that arts organizations can continue to offer programming to underserved communities, provide educational initiatives, and deliver accessible performances to all.
